You can give Muse goals and ask it to check in — a weekly review, a daily nudge, a Sunday training recap. The assistant runs these automations on its own and reports back. This is the least-appreciated capability in the app, and the one upgrades lean on hardest.
Skills, connectors, prompts, and powerups — what's the difference?
The vocabulary around Muse upgrades is a mess, so here's the clean version:
- Prompts are text you paste into a chat. One-shot, stateless, forgotten tomorrow. Free prompt lists exist by the hundred — they're useful and they're not upgrades.
- Connectors are app integrations (Gmail, Spotify, Peloton). They provide access to data, not coaching or method.
- Skills are installable capability bundles: instructions, methods, and behavior that live inside your assistant. Muse ships with dozens of built-in skills, and installing custom ones is a first-class capability of the product.
- Powerups (our term) are the full package: a skill, plus a coaching personality, plus persistent records, plus scheduled automations that check in on their own. A Powerup doesn't just answer questions about marathon training — it builds your plan, logs your runs, reviews your week every Sunday, and adjusts. The difference between a prompt and a Powerup is the difference between a recipe card and a chef.

What Muse can't do (honest version)
- It's not a doctor, dietitian, or physical therapist. Coaching packs organize and motivate; they don't diagnose. If something hurts in the wrong way, see a professional — any honest upgrade says this up front.
- Estimates are estimates. A meal-photo macro estimate is a range, not a lab measurement. Good upgrades say so plainly instead of faking precision.
- It can't reach through the screen. No spotter on your heavy squat, no one to stop you from eating the whole pizza. The accountability is real but it's still self-directed.
- Geography and age limits apply. Muse itself is US/Canada and 18+ at launch — upgrades inherit those limits.
How to evaluate a Muse upgrade before you buy
- Is it a system or a prompt? If the whole thing could be pasted into one chat message, it's a prompt with a price tag. Look for persistent records, scheduled check-ins, and adaptive behavior.
- Does it adapt to you? A real coaching upgrade asks setup questions and routes you — a beginner marathoner and a Boston-qualifier hopeful shouldn't get the same plan.
- Does it have guardrails? Training upgrades should screen for injury and know when to say "see a doctor." Nutrition upgrades should have disordered-eating safeguards. The absence of guardrails is a red flag.
- One-time or subscription? Subscriptions make sense for services with ongoing costs. For content that installs into your assistant and runs there, one-time pricing is the honest model.

Do I need the paid Muse tier for upgrades?
No. Powerups install into the free version of the Meta Muse AI assistant. Heavy users who burn through the free weekly token allowance may want a paid tier, but it's not required.
Are upgrades made or endorsed by Meta?

Will Meta build this stuff in natively?
Meta demos generic coaching features, and the platform will keep improving — that's true of every platform. The bet behind paid upgrades is depth: a $19 pack can go deeper on one thing (periodization science, food-safety enforcement, inductive Bible study method) than a general assistant ever will.
